Ecuador is similar to many countries the International News Challenge has revealed.  Former Presidents prosecuted for embezzlement or illegal activities.

Former Ecuadorian President Jamil Mahuad is being prosecuted for embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds.  The nation’s prosecutor is asking for the maximum penalty for the accused crimes.  Galo Chririboga, The Attorney General, claims Mahuad, “Violated constitutional and legal norms with the aim of favoring the owners, managers, officers or directors of private banks”, when he decreed a state of emergency and a banking holiday,  considered later as a crime of  ” bank embezzlement “.

It also seems many nations are having issues with their medical doctors.  Ecuador wants to prosecute doctors who commit malpractice with manslaughter charges.  The doctors aren’t happy about this and have threatened to quit en masse.  The doctors have already demonstrated against the proposed penalties.  The demonstration caused the temporarily suspension of medical care, but doctors said that everything went normal.

Ecuador is also preparing for the return of the H1N1 virus.  The US had this scare back in  2005 and it continues to brew around the world.  The fear is the virus will mutate and the resulting flu will spread around the world, similar to the time during World War I.

Finally, imagine waiting seven months for your mortgage loan to be processed.  Ecuadorian officials are trying to shorten the length of the loan procedures from seven to three months for affordable mortgage loans.
