Austria – October 16, 2013

Today we are in Austria.

To Americans, Austria is the land of the von Trapp family from the Sound of Music.  The lyrics and melody of “Edelweiss” makes us feel sad and good about Austria, for no particular reason except the movie expressed the pride of the citizens.  The Edelweiss is a plant shown below, click on the picture to get more information about the beloved plant.

In today’s Austrian Times, the Austrians are dealing with one of the complexities of cigarette smoking in the 21st Century.  Should a smoking break be considered an extra break?  For those who don’t smoke, we often find it frustrating to see co-workers run off to have a puff, while we sit and slave away.  Seems unfair despite the fact smokers are slowly being alienated in work places as well other public areas.

In the US, the NFL proclaims the world is interested in American Football.  Well, it seems in Austria, it may be the case.  Click on the picture below and read about the shortage of players.  I’m sure there are American college students who want to see the world, maybe they should look into joining this team.
